Spellings

At Larkfields, we are helping the children build robust and flexible spelling strategies with an approach called ‘No Nonsense Spelling’.  This will cover all National Curriculum requirements and equip pupils with strategies for having a go at new spellings.  The children will be introduced to this scheme in the Infant school at year 2 and follow through to year 6.

Spelling rules and patterns will be taught and investigated in short 15 - minute sessions.

There are often multiple spelling choices for sounds in the English language: for example, the sound /e/ can be spelt in more than a dozen ways (ei, ie, ee, ea, i, oe, etc). Children will use a phoneme grapheme mat to look at the different ways of writing a sound to support them to make correct spelling choices. (click link for a copy).
